>Alan Licht is an American guitarist probably best known for his work with The Blue Humans, Plays Well juxtaposes two seemingly unrelated songs both clocking in at around 37 minutes, Remington Khan is loose improvised solo electric guitar noodling over a minimal two note loop '...that slides inexorably into a fuzzy noise fest', the playing here is reminiscent of Loren Connors and Jim O'Rourke, The Old Victrola opens suddenly with Licht playing along to an a cappella recording of Captain Beefheart '...which segues coolly into a sort of post-Velvet Underground punkish guitar melody', this continues noisily for a few minutes before cutting sharply to a loop of Donna Summer's Dim All The Lights, 'Licht superimposes layers of wailing guitars, gradually building the tension...until the original disco song explodes in all its glory at the 16-minute mark', he eventually plays his way back to a variation on the Beefheart motif that the track opened with, a sufficiently unique listening experience in what could have easily been a fairly typical electric guitar improv album, ~2k listeners

>A new set by the coolest chap in New York City documenting the before-and-after development of a solo electric guitar piece that Alan Licht has been playing out for last four years... 'Four Years Older' sees a move away from the loop-based pieces of recent releases. On 'Four Years Later' in particular the guitar's fingerboard is actually touched more than on any other solo piece of the last ten years, although the instrument is pushed to sound more like a suitcase synth, a church organ, a hornet's nest, and a malfunctioning PlayStation than a guitar per se. As Alan points out: “'Four Years Earlier' was the debut of the piece; it was in three sections, the latter two of which appear here. The first section was identical to the first section of 'Four Years Later'. I scrapped the second two parts after a couple of subsequent performances and developed it into a six-part piece, and then a seven part piece in this studio version.

Ata Kak - Obaa Sima (ATFA remaster + slow version)
This is actually an incredibly well-made album, often resembling very modern-sounding electro, house, even chillwave, all the while coming from a completely different musical background and displaying those influences too. Ata Kak ooze's enthusiasm you can't help but feel upbeat after listening to it. Than some how it being lo-fi boost's the production giving the album a nice even subdued sound. Followed up by a pre era rave bass thumping in the background giving it an old school jungle vibe. Obaa Sima encourages me to get off my lazy ass and make some music of my own.

This genre comes from the Shona people of Zimbabwe, using their main instrument, the Mbira. One of my fifty favourite albums of all time, this is a breathtaking example of natural music. I adore the detail and the residual relaxation it imparts. Highly recommended for studying, sleeping, and enjoying in nature. Probably the best release from the essential Nonesuch explorer series.
