Both new plaster and new paint are looking good! Pool paint is shiny and reflective, and new plaster has a deep luster, like an eggshell. Of course, you can add colors and additives to plaster to create custom tones. You can do the same with paint, and could even paint a mural. You need to use a grinder and because water and electricity don't mix you may want to consider draining your pool. I think plaster damage can sometimes occur from the suns heat expanding the plaster. The plaster can lift off the base and when it shrinks back it crazy cracks.

Plaster consists of Portland cement, quartz sand and additives. Pool shells commonly have a layer of plaster over concrete or gunite. Over time the plaster cracks or chips from wear, contact with heavy or sharp objects or becoming dried out from too much sun exposure. Doing the job yourself saves thousands of dollars for the patching alone, not including the considerable cost of cleaning and preparations for professional patching.
1
Wear protective clothing and rubber boots. Put on your rubber gloves, safety goggles and respirator. Fill a 5-gallon bucket with soda ash, and place it near the lowest point in the pool. Leave room for the acid water to pool around the drain without blocking your access to the bucket.
2
Chisel out loose plaster from cracks, pop outs and hollow spots in the pool. Detect hollow spots by dragging a heavy chain across the bottom of the pool. Listen closely as you drag for a hollow, echo-like sound that indicates the location of a hollow spot.
3
Grind cracks to 1/2 inch deep with a grinder. Continue grinding to extend the crack 1 inch on each end. Allow the crack to dry. Scrub the dust and debris out of the cracks and chiseled areas using a wire brush.
4
Hook up a garden hose to your outdoor water tap. Rinse the sides of the pool as it finishes draining to remove loose debris, such as leaves and algae. Beretta 950 bs jetfire manual transmission. Shovel out the debris, and drain the rinse water. Leave the water hose running, and lay the hose along the bottom of the pool.
5
Pour 1 gallon of water into a plastic sprayer, then add 1 gallon of muriatic acid. Place the lid on the container. Start at the deepest end of the pool, and spray one 5-foot section of wall at a time with the acid. Let the acid sit for 30 seconds, then rinse the area from top to bottom. Mix more acid as needed to finish the pool.
6
Add 2 pounds of soda ash for each gallon of acid used to the acid water in the bottom of the pool to neutralize the acid. Stir the soda ash into the water with a pool brush on an extension pole. Drain the water out of the pool. Let the pool dry out completely.
7
Spread a bead of self-leveling pool caulk along the crack. Let it dry for 12 hours.
8
Mix the plaster patching compound with water to the consistency of peanut butter. Continue mixing until no lumps or powder remain, scraping the sides of the container as you stir.
9
Mist the surface of the crack with a spray bottle filled with water. Spray just enough that the surface becomes moist but water does not bead up.
10
Pick up a dollop of the plaster patching compound with the flat trowel. Drag it across the crack at a 45-degree angle. After filling a few feet of the crack, drag the trowel down the length of the crack to smooth it out. If the plaster skims over while you work, simply stir it again to make it workable.
11
Dab a sponge against the patch to match the texture to the surrounding wall. Continue packing the crack this way until you have it filled. Cover each patch with a wet towel to keep it moist while you finish patching all damaged areas.
12
Remove the towels once you finish patching. Fill the pool immediately.

Ez Patch Pool Plaster Repair
With even the best of concrete in-ground swimming pools, you will eventually find cracks, hollow spots, and chipps on the surfaces as they age. But, with the proper tools and materials, you'll find that concrete pool repair can be easy if you use the six steps as described below.
Step 1 – Remove Damaged Substrate
Remove any of the substrate or surface material, including patching or foreign materials. If there are cracks in the substrate, use a concrete grinder to cut them out and extend the cutout at least 1 inch beyond both ends of the original length of the crack. Make sure to wear safety gloves and goggles when working with a grinder.
Then, with your chisel and hammer, make some pock marks in the pool's surface. These holes will help patching material bond better to the pool's new surface.
Step 2 – Find Hollow Spots
Although you will be able to easily spot cracks in the pool's surface, it may not be as easy to identify spots where the outer plaster has separated from the shotcrete or gunite beneath it. If these spots exist, they will most likely separate completely over time. It is best for you to repair these potential trouble spots while you are repairing your pool's surface.
You can easily identify these places by gently tapping on the pool's sides. At places where the plaster is separating, you will hear a hollow sound. At the location of the sound, remove the loose plaster and replace it with the mixture you will use to fill cracks and holes.
Step 3 – Clean the Substrate Surface
Clean all dust, grit, and concrete pieces off the surface you are repairing. Then cover the surface with an acid rinse.

Warning: Working with acid is dangerous if the proper safety precautions are not taken. Read the product’s directions thoroughly and wear rubber gloves, boots, splash-safe eye goggle, and an approved respirator for acid fumes. Also note that you should never add water to acid; always add acid to water. If you reverse this process, you could burn your skin via an explosive reaction.
Step 4 – Fill Cracks and Depressions
Fill the crack with caulk, leaving a space of ¼ inch between the caulk and the top of the crack. This will allow you to later apply plaster without creating uneven places on the surface. When finished with the caulking, let it dry for 24 hours.

Step 5 – Apply a Fill Mixture
Apply a mixture of white concrete, white sand, acrylic cement bonding agent, and enough water to create a mixture as thick as a thin putty. With your trowel, force the mixture into all divots, holes, and corners, being careful to force out any air bubbles. Use your trowel to smooth the mixture over the surface until the surface is level and smooth. Wait until the mixture has begun to set up, about 15 minutes, before smoothing the surface again with your trowel.
Step 6 – Texture the Surface
How To Repair A Plaster Pool
If the old surface has a texture that is rougher than your newly patched area, you will want to match the textures while your newly patched spot is still wet. You can do this by texturing the area with a damp sponge.
Now that you have repaired your pool surface, you should fill it with water right away. If you expect a delay in filling your pool, spread wet towels over the just-repaired surface.
